The art of intimate repair.
Where clinical expertise meets lived experience.
Serving discerning clients in English and French, in person in Paris and internationally online.
Three distinct offerings. One standard of care.
Couples & Intimacy
For relationships ready to move past the surface. Bob works with couples navigating desire, conflict, trust, emotional disconnection, and the deeper questions of intimacy. Couples therapy helps with conflict management and the art of repair.
Recovery Concierge
A premium recovery service for individuals and families who want more than a weekly session to help with addiction. Bob works alongside clients in their daily lives, offering hands-on support, crisis availability, and active accompaniment through the ongoing stages of sobriety.
Individual Therapy
One-on-one work for the patterns, transitions, and questions that bring you here. Whether navigating anxiety, identity, expat life, or simply a moment of being lost, this is a space built for honest, rigorous work.
Bob McGowan is a Canadian therapist based in Paris, specializing in couples work, sexual intimacy, and addiction recovery. He holds a Master of Social Work from McGill University and brings clinical experience across outpatient psychiatry, community mental health, and private practice.
Bob is living in sustained recovery, creating and maintaining a strong foundation in his practice. For those rebuilding a life around sobriety, addiction, or intimacy, Bob brings something training alone cannot offer: lived experience.
He specializes in the intersection of relationships, intimacy, and recovery, and is currently pursuing his Couples & Sex Therapy Certification with the Modern Sex Therapy Institute on the pathway to AASECT certification. His clinical approach draws from Emotionally Focused Therapy, the Gottman Method, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and emotional regulation skills, integrated with somatic and trauma-informed practice.
Shaped by the work.
Bob receives clients in his private practice in the 11e arrondissement of Paris, one of the city's most storied and vibrant neighbourhoods. The setting is discreet, considered, and designed for the quality of presence this work demands.
For those unable to meet in person, sessions are available online to international clients across Europe, North America, and beyond. The standard of care remains identical regardless of location.
All communication is handled with complete confidentiality. Enquiries are responded to personally and promptly.
Bob is at home in both English and French.
Recovery, redefined.
Recovery concierge services are designed for clients who need more than a weekly session, Bob offers a retainer-based concierge service focused on support that extends into daily life, not just the therapy session.
This means real-world accompaniment: responsive, discreet, built around what early or ongoing sobriety actually demands. Bob takes on a limited number of clients at a time, so the presence and consistency stays real.
Recovery Concierge is available to individuals and families, and is also used as a referral resource by clinicians looking for reliable support for their own clients.
The Standard of Care
An Affirming Practice
This is an explicitly queer-affirming space. LGBTQ+ individuals, same-sex couples, gender-diverse clients, and those in non-traditional relationship structures are wholeheartedly welcomed. They are a central and valued part of the community Bob serves.
Confidentiality
Everything discussed in session remains strictly confidential. Bob adheres to the professional and ethical standards of his regulatory body in Quebec, Canada, the OTSTCFQ, ensuring a safe, accountable, and trustworthy therapeutic environment.
Trauma-Informed Care
The work is paced with care and conducted through a trauma-informed lens. Emotional safety is never sacrificed for progress. Sessions are designed to support meaningful exploration while maintaining stability and client agency throughout.
Continuing Development
Bob is committed to ongoing supervision, training, and professional development. The standard of care evolves because the field does.
